11 September 2018 EP elections and EU budget, get ready for 2019! Dear readers, Welcome back! Summer break came to an end and we hope you all had the pleasure to get some rest and enjoy this calmer period of the year. Some rest was indeed needed before the second semester starts with its reports, events and political milestones. Among these, we can list the future EU budget, the launch of the AidWatch report, the anniversary of the SDGs, the migration agenda, the preparations ahead of the EP elections in 2019 and the opening of the Cotonou negotiations. As always, CONCORD will follow these processes and help you getting the main points. In the end, understanding what is at stake to react accordingly is the first step of an impactful advocacy strategy. The second semester of 2018 will mark several important milestones in the elaboration and agreement process of the future EU budget. CONCORD will keep on monitoring, analysing and reacting along the different steps. Recently, we published a paper evaluating the thematic programmes of the external instrument and proposing alternatives. Have a look! Read the paper Consult the timeline Upcoming CONCORD reports Next week will welcome a new CONCORD report on the Gender Action Plan II monitoring the implementation of the Plan on the basis of a in-country research in Rwanda, Vietnam and Ghana. The next AidWatch report, monitoring Development Aid quality and quantity around Europe, will be launched on 17 October. Next to these reports, events (like the Learning & Exchange Forum) and advocacy tools will be developed all along the coming months. It looks back on the year 2017. As the Secretary General, Delphine Moralis, says: "Our work in 2017 has been true to our mission, to protect children, their rights, and equitable development." The annual report #EUandME short film The EU is offering young filmmakers the chance to make their very own #EUandME short film. Five winners will each receive a grant of €7,500, as well as mentoring from a top European director, to help them to bring their idea to life. More information Better response workshop The Building a Better Response (BBR) project has launched a website with free online courses to strengthen NGO capacity on the international humanitarian coordination system and to improve understanding of the international coordination system and help participants identify where they can take action and engage directly within the system.
