The future of Development Aid will be addressed during several conferences and debates, like the "EU Budget for the future" and the "Innovation in Development". The European Council on 18 and 19 October might steer the direction of the external instrument in the future EU Budget. Ahead of that, CONCORD had the opportunity to discuss with 2 committees in the EU Parliament (DEVE and AFET) and to recall on the need to push for a #Buget4Solidarity. If you missed the discussion, don't skip the live streaming (available here).
These weeks are decisive for the future of our sector raising questions on why, how and what should the EU finance development cooperation for. Our call, more than ever, remains to safeguard and ensure the principles and objectives of Sustainable Development, poverty eradication and the realisation of Human Rights at the core of any future EU decisions.
In solidarity,

CONCORD's NEWS OF THE MONTH
Start of the Cotonou negotiations
The European Commission officially launched the negotiations with the African, Caribbean and Pacific countries (ACP) on a new partnership agreement which will succeed the Cotonou Agreement. CONCORD, the European Confederation of Development NGOs, welcomes the renewal of the agreement as it represents a great opportunity to build a people-centered cooperation among equal partners but is concerned about the narrative of Africa being increasingly portrayed only as Europe's trade and economic partner.
Digitalisation is becoming a vital part of our world, and by extension of development cooperation. It represents new challenges and opportunities for our sector. But what does digitalisation mean? How will it impact the development sector? Will it reinforce or weaken our development objectives? Which transformation should and/or will our sector go through? To answer all these questions, we invite you to go through the new report commissioned by CONCORD Europe and FOND Romania.
Last Friday, GENE (the Global Education Network Europe) launched its report summarising key trends in policy, themes and funding of Global Education and DEAR in Europe. Our colleague in CONCORD, Francesca Minniti, was there to present our recent publication on the same topic "Global Citizenship Education in Europe: How much do we care?". If you missed the event, watch the full conversation live streamed.
Since the year 2000 SOLIDAR organises its annual Silver Rose Awards in the European Parliament in cooperation with the S&D Group and the Party of European Socialists (PES). This is a unique occasion to celebrate Civil Society Organisations and individuals whose extraordinary struggles contribute greatly to social justice and solidarity throughout the world. You can nominate your favorite, too!

Last week, our member CIDSE released the paper "The Climate Urgency: Setting Sail for a New Paradigm". This report explores how paradigm shift in our food and energy systems could greatly contribute to limit rise in average global temperature to 1.5 C without relying on risky and unproven Negative Emissions Technologies (NETs) or geoengineering.
ALDA opened a call for proposals for activities and events with the aim of fostering active European citizenship on the most current issues on the EU agenda. Deadline for applications: 12 October. The activities will take place from 22 October to 31 December 2018.
Exploring possibilities for a "post-growth economy" in Europe... This was the aim of the Post-Growth Conference in the EU Parliament in Brussels (18-19 September) organised in the framework of the International Degrowth Conferences. The manifesto 'Europe, it's time to end the growth dependency', co-signed by more than 200 academics, was launched during the event (see article in the Guardian).
Fair Trade International and the World Fair Trade Organisation Europe (WFTO) have a new charter which focuses on how the Global Fair Trade Movement works to transform trade in order to achieve justice, equality and sustainability.
